High Res Rick Schuler John Denver 2.jpg

Rick Schuler hails from Los Angeles, having previously lived across various regions of the South and Midwest United States, including Monroe, Louisiana, his birthplace, and St. Louis, Missouri, where he grew up and developed his musical identity. At thirteen, Schuler first donned round glasses, prompting comparisons to John Denver, whose music he soon came to appreciate. Denver’s presence on the airwaves provided solace amid turbulent times, influencing Schuler profoundly. Schuler recounts that his reserved nature and affinity for Denver’s music led him to teach himself guitar, fostering a deep connection with the artist.

After nearly four decades, Schuler is recognized as the leading interpreter of John Denver’s repertoire. His "Rocky Mountain High Experience®" is widely regarded as an authentic musical homage, featuring endorsements from Denver’s former band members. Schuler not only captures Denver’s vocal and visual likeness but also upholds his humanitarian values, integrating his own global initiatives into performances at venues ranging from performing arts centers to outdoor festivals, and appearing on nationally syndicated television and radio.

Schuler frequently collaborates with original members of Denver’s ensemble, whose admiration underscores the accuracy of his renditions. He notes that Denver’s work was often misunderstood by critics, who overlooked the profound emotional depth woven into his compositions. Songs such as “Sunshine” resonate strongly with audiences, eliciting deeply felt responses.

“Rocky Mountain High,” one of Denver’s signature pieces, serves as a protest song advocating unity over division. Schuler references its environmental message and notes Denver’s activism, including efforts to prevent the Olympics from being held in Aspen. Denver’s catalogue includes numerous songs reflecting his stance against the Vietnam war.

Doug Belscher, Denver’s manager in the 1980s, immediately recognized Schuler’s striking resemblance and impressive vocals to Denver. Many individuals close to Denver have expressed similar sentiments. Schuler describes his connection to Denver as both musical and personal, rooted in shared sensitivities and spirituality.

More than 25 years since Denver's passing, Schuler reflects on the enduring influence in Denver’s message: love for God, the earth, peace, and humanity.

Public response to Schuler is notable, with audiences commenting on his embodiment of Denver’s spirit. Denver’s legacy remains prominent, evidenced by extensive online streaming and viewership of his music on YouTube and continued recognition in major media outlets such as Forbes, which highlighted Denver’s posthumous success on the Billboard sales charts following the 2025 Super Bowl appearance of “Take Me Home Country Roads” on a national ad for Rocket Mortgage.

Schuler characterizes Denver as a romantic and anti-materialist whose heartfelt performances continue to connect with listeners. In addition to interpreting Denver’s works, Schuler is an accomplished songwriter, with four albums available on iTunes and an upcoming Nashville-recorded project titled ‘Colorado.’ The first single, “Golden Days of Aspen Glow,” honors John Denver, reflecting the musical heritage that inspired his career. Schuler expresses gratitude for the opportunity to tour the world and uphold Denver’s artistic legacy.
